Same exact thing happened at my church too when I was a teen. The Assistant Music director left her very nice husband for a married man (who was also a member of the church with his wife and kids). This music director and her husband were very involved with the teen youth group, as they were both mid 40s and had no kids. I remember her just no longer showing up and us teens were given no explanation. My mom later told me. All of them dropped out of the church immediately and didn't keep in touch. They had all been a part of the church for 10+ years and literally dropped off the face of the earth.
And so many of our church officials and elders were gay as f*ck, even though married with kids. I know at least three or four who came out of the closet in their 50s. My mom still attended the church by herself after all us kids left the coop, just because it was so entertaining to see the drama and relay it back to us
