I disagree about third grade being hard to pull them out. When your kid is taking high school level classes, THAT is when it is hard to pull them out. I wish I realized this earlier and took them out for educational vacation more often.

Don't send him for the 1.5 hrs. You'll have enough to deal with getting to the airport. Not at all worth it.

Why are such a goody two shoes??

It's first grade. It does not matter that your child misses a few days.

OP here. Booked our flights. DS will miss 2 days of school. Trying to decide if I should send DS to school for 1.5 hours before we have to leave for the airport. DH thinks DS should just skip and not a big deal to miss. I prefer DS not to be marked absent.

I was at the school today and briefly mentioned that we thinking of going away to visit my sick friend. Turns out the teacher will be out that Friday and the kids will have a sub. I feel less guilty now.

* Did you behave reasonably to the teacher?
