I *wish* my MIL would buy us decor for DD's nursery. Instead, she gave us a 60+ year old bunny lamp for easter. "Oh this was mine as a baby, I want Larla to have it". Never mind that it is ridiculously old, ugly, and clearly unsafe for a child (exposed wiring, lead, etc…).

I hate it when people say... Maybe the kid will like it... Joe bad can it be, it's a kids room... It's just a room, find a place to put it... Cutter up the bathroom with the junk!? Not OP, but I actually have good taste and will absolutely not be displaying themed crap in any part of my home. It is my home and I will decorate it in a way the appeals to me. I can only imagine how tacky some of your homes are!

OP, only you know your Mil. I would probably tell my own mother, though she usually buys things on sale that wouldn't be worth the effort to return, but I wouldn't say anything to my MIL. DH might, depending on the situation, but she would get offended either way. But no, I'm not displaying ugly junk bc you would get offended if I don't. Good grief!

Unimportant. The most unimportant thing you wrote. Look, on some level she knows it wasn't an appropriate gift, she know this - but she couldn't help herself. She's living vicariously. It brought her joy. The best you can do is not emphasize her short-comings - it is a short coming - trying to decorate your house. Don't overthink it. Put it away. Display occasionally when she visits if that doesn't get under your skin. Or donate it. But also don't be so stubborn that you don't consider that in the future your kid may really like it. You have all the power here.

+1. Or a bathroom if you have one dedicated to your child. I think a clock over the toilet and a little lamp in an otherwise undecorated room might look kind of cute.

It depends what the stuff is really. My nursery doesn't really have a theme beyond a few colors I tried to be consistent about. But it does already have a lamp, so if someone bought me a jungle themed clock, lamp and bookends, I wouldn't really want them. But I'd probably use the bookends (how bad can it not go? It's a nursery) and get rid of the rest or find another place for them. You can always get rid of it later.

I would have your DH mention that his nursery is complete and decorated differently. DH should try to get a receipt or return the items to his mom.
