Here's where I stand.
1. Marriage: Between two consenting adults.
2. Abortion: Necessary in some circumstances. But should not be used as a form of routine birth control - proper sex ed and access to contraceptives should be made available - for people living in poverty, they should have free and easy access to long term birth control.
3. Death penalty is inhumane and in some cases we have mistakenly executed wrongly sentenced individuals.
4. Agree with strong punishments for animal abuse. Should also include inhumane farming practices.
5. Decriminalize marijuana use and regulate it the way we do alcohol and tobacco.
6. No guns for people under 18 (may use one with a guardian's supervision), no guns for felons, no guns for people with history of domestic violence, no guns for people with history of alcohol or substance abuse, no guns for people with history of depression or schizophrenia or other mental conditions that could lead to harming one's self or others, no military style guns for civilians, no high capacity magazines.
7. Foreign policy should be collaborative, based on threats and opportunities. US should never engage in unilateral actions toward war but may unilaterally defend if directly attacked.
8. Immigration - improve and expand the visa process to allow legal worker visas where need is well established and documented, and where American workers have had the first right of refusal. From there make deportation quicker and more aggressive.
9. Taxes are what provide civilized society. Simplify the tax code and eliminate most loopholes, and put in place a progressive tax for both individuals and corporations based on recurring income regardless of source (investments or otherwise). Extremely harsh punishments including potential freezing and forfeiture of assets for corporations that offshore revenue in order to avoid taxation.
10. Robust capitalism but with robust government checks and balances to prevent monopolies, worker injury, consumer fraud, to ensure environmental protection, et cetera. Trade deals with foreign countries to include offsets - if a country with lousy record for worker safety and poor environmental protection wants to export goods to the US, they should have to pay extra.
11. Robust safety net, but with checks and balances to prevent fraud and abuse.
12. Healthcare system that is outcomes-based, and has robust checks, balances and controls to contain costs and prevent price gouging.
13. Sufficient bureaucracy to prevent fraud and abuse and protect citizens - that means keeping agencies like the IRS and EPA.
14. Free public education including opportunities for vocational training and basic college options. Extra funding for areas where there is demand or a national shortage, such as STEM. An educated citizenry is vital for the future growth, survival and competetiveness of the nation.
15. Improve national and regional agricultural planning and priorities. It is a disgrace that a majority of produce in the local supermarket is not US grown. Support local farmers, support agricultural technology to improve crop yield, cut off subsidies for industrial crops that are for the foreign market.
16. Climate change is real and is already starting to cost America billions of dollars in infrastructure and relocation costs, and this will get worse in the coming decades. Support renewable technologies. Most major coal fired power plants still in operation in the US were built over 70 years ago and are well past their original planned service life. Coal is no longer competetive as compared to natural gas, and solar and other technologies are well on their way to catching up and overtaking coal as well.
17. America is a diverse and secular nation, and we should recognize that and honor the Founders' vision of separation of church and state. Our laws are based on British Common Law, not the Ten Commandments.
18. Term limits for all politicians - agree with that.
Your platform is Leftist BS.
