CDC just issued statement that said to avoid zika travel to high altitude places. That pretty much eliminates all beaches by definition.

Just to clarify CDC said travel is ok to high elevation cities in Zika countries (Mexico City, Bogota etc.) But the latter part of the prior post is correct, because beaches are not high altitude.

You do know there are no guarantees that anywhere you go that there will not be Zika.

Yeah I was going to say Spain but I've been to the beach there in March and it was pretty cold (average temps). April would probably be better but even then it's not exactly the Caribbean. I haven't done Italy or the Croatian coast in the spring but it might be better?

Friend of mine and his wife just went to Hawaii. She got on the plane perfectly healthy, caught some sort of virus, and in under a week was dead.

The United States. Florida, South Carolina, Alabama. Friends of mine have been posting gorgeous pictures of their trip to Gulf beaches.

April is going to be a bit chilly for Italy, Spain & Portugal beaches. Same for Bahamas (tho the water at Atlantis is heated). I think you need to be further south, which puts you in Zika territory. Maybe Costa Rica, if it isn't too bad there?

There's another thread about Greece. I wouldn't go there right now given the refugee crisis.

Does it have to be a beach vacation?

I've never been bitten on any vacations in the Caribbean...probably because we stay at oceanfront resorts and spend a lot of time in or on the water.

In Florida, for example, they would not be AT the beach. But they sure will be flying around when you're at your hotel, or anywhere else not literally on the sand.

Hawaii is great but did you mean in your OP that you don't want more than a 7-9 hour flight? I'm not sure if the nonstop to Dulles to Honolulu is still running, but that's more like a 10-11 hour flight. The next best option is flying to California then to Hawaii.

Also how long a vacation can you take? Are you traveling with children? I wouldn't go to Hawaii from the East Coast unless I could stay there a week minimum.
