That is my hunch also. And depressed along with it would make a lot of sense.

I hope all the concern for him is cheering for him - he seems like a decent hearted soul.

It seems pretty clear he's descended into mental illness. Perhaps those around him don't have his best wishes at heart, but he also could have just finally lost control of it. It's really hard to know from the outside.

It's quite a change, though. I met him in the past, and he was one of the most desperately needy-for-attention people I ever knew. To the point where people would avoid him. I can see why his friends would be concerned.
