Capitol Hill. Pretty much every kid wears a helmet, even the kids on scooters at the playground.

But it is about 85% Asian and South Asian immigrants (the parents), so now I think it's more a cultural thing (several don't use car seats for kids, and I see four year olds are riding up in the front seats of the cars, etc.).


Ah, do you have a neighbor that left their 6 year old kid at the YMCA pool alone? What is this front seat thing, is it b/c the parents don't want to be seen as 'servants' to their kids or something?


? Servants? Doubt it. I grew up that way too. I always rode in the front seat as a kid.

Our neighborhood kids used to for about a decade after one kid had to be airlifted to the hospital after cracking her skull open biking over uneven sidewalk. Now, only about 10 percent wear them and it's mainly the elementary school kids or younger. Parents seem oblivious.

Tween/ teen skateboarders not as reliably, though. And they do ride down the middle of Nevada and 41st sometimes

Close-in suburbs. All the elementary school aged kids in my neighborhood wear helmets. Some of the older ones don't.
