Agreed! We have stopped doing adult gifts and prefer to go out together, get tickets to a sports event or show or do something else out of the ordinary where we spend time together. We are planning a weekend in New York City soon as a way to do something across age levels and make memories.

I just made my peace with getting them the same thing every time. For Christmas, Dad gets a box of oranges and he loves it. Mom gets an amyrillis bulb. Birthdays, Mom gets a box of chocolates from Burdick's-- this is my go-to gift because they are very nice, not terribly expensive, and always arrive in perfect condition no matter how hot the weather. It's amazing. Dad gets a book for his birthday.

I also like to look for vintage books, or beloved books from my childhood that my parents might like to read to DD. My dad is not the internettiest guy, so he's always astonished when I can find some out of print book on eBay that he remembers.
