I think a septum dominates a person's face to the point that this is all I see when I look at them. I want to peck at it like a magpie. Shiny! I figure it's some kind of defensive filtering device at this point.

A stud/small ring can enhance beauty, or at least it doesn't make it the only thing you see on the wearer's face. I think if you want it, just get it. You can always take it out and the hole that is left behind looks mostly like a freckle.

I do not have a septum ring, but they can easily be tucked away and you would never know it's there. Unlike tattoos, the beauty of a piercing is that you can remove them if you need to and put them back when you are done. Unfortunately, when you have preconceived notions, it's hard to see any other side. I wish more people could pull the stick out of their backsides and dig deeper than the surface.

You wouldn't be the first one to have a midlife crises. As they say, "There's no fool like an old fool".
