Mexico? Maybe Cabo. But I won't go again personally after good friends of ours were mugged. On resort property in Cancun. So scary.

I was mugged in New York on the Subway.

Yeah - I won't vacation on the NYC Subway either.

Depends on age of kids and finances. Hawaii is expensive and a LONG flight. But amazing.

Hawaii by a long shot. We did Pearl Harbor (Oahu) and then on to the Big Island. Pearl Harbor is so interesting but Honulu and Waikiki is overcrowded, beaches are nothing to write home about and underwhelming. On the Big Island we went north and stayed at a beautiful resort -great pool, location and beach. We really enjoyed the volcano hiking and lava flows. Also liked that the island wasn't as commercial and touristy as other islands.

Mexico - done parts of baja nothing special. We've flown into Puerta Vallarta - the beaches were dirty and crowded. Rented a car and went north several hours into a very low population area. Interesting and beautiful but no interest in going back. We all ended up with stomach issues even though we thought we were really careful. I do know family members have gone to locations in Mexico off the beaten track and the beaches were much more beautiful and less crowded.

If I was deciding between the two I would likely pick Hawaii again

Clearly you've never been to Mexico.

The peso is so weak right now that you are almost guaranteed to get a much better deal in Mexico... if that matters to you.

Cases of the mosquito-borne disease continue to climb in the island state, whose health department reported 180 cases as of Christmas Eve.

That figure include 172 people who got dengue between September 11 and December 13 but are no longer infectious. Another eight people got the disease since then and may be infectious, according to the Hawaii health department.

It all adds up to a big spike from the 23 cases reported early last month, and there's little indication there won't be more in the weeks

Thing they are up to 250 now plus a few tourist.

So does Mexico. One of our neighbors brought it back with him from there.

Have you ever been to Cabo? There is nothing third world about it. Their cab drivers are speak better English than many of the immigrants I come across in the DC area.

My vote is for Cabo in Mexico. Hawaii is way too far and overrated, IMO.
