That way the child is going to have a smoother transition going to daycare.
Our school does this. Also, there are signs indicating whether a child can roll, sit up, crawl, etc, over the crib. It's in huge red letters if a baby can roll, and they are never alone while napping. The littlest ones usually slept in rockers or on boppies though.
