It's really 3 schools...regular Ed, Honors and IB are very distinct groups of kids. Not sure if that's how it is in other FFX county schools. It is a diverse population. Doesn't mean it's a bad education.

Every single FCPS high school made it to the Washington Post Challenge Index's list of top high schools in the nation. Is the Index perfect? No, but it takes into account a lot more than test scores and is a better indicator of the quality of education. It shows how well the school delivers on its commitment to delivering educational opportunities. It doesn't surprise me in the least that test scores are higher in 19 other FCPS high schools. But that doesn't mean your kid is in any way disadvantaged by going there. You might be worried about what your kid does with that opportunity but I'm not worried about mine.

I'm the PP you're responding to. Those people may have had a bad experience, heard of a bad experience or just trying to make themselves feel better. There's always going to be someone who is unhappy with what they've got or with what someone else has. FCPS is more than a decent system and an excellent education can be had at every school for kids who are typical. You can't rely on opinions spouted here. Go to Edison and take a tour.

This is probably superficial, but Edison has a really good web page. It tells you that someone there is paying attention to what's happening at the school and getting the word out.

I graduated from Edison. The majority of my friends and I went on to w&m, uva, tech, jmu,chapel hill etc. our graduating class at the time was under 250. It was a great learning environment. Academically inclined kids went to college. Others trained in useful skills like electricians, plumbers, realators, etc. Many of my friends from Edison are successful doctors, lawyers, actors, govt workers, IT professionals, Sahms. Though the student body was diversed it is what makes it strong. I'm a minority myself whose family never made more than 40k a year. My hhi now is pushing 300k. I would buy and send my kids to Edison in a heartbeat.

Was it "ghetto" or drug infested and were their fights or was she immune to that, being in IB. Did she feel safe there? Were you pleased with her education?

My daughter graduated from Edison last year and we were very happy with it. She did IB and I was impressed with the writing she did. She's doing great in college and attributes it to her teachers and experience in HS. She loved the theater dept. as well. We think it's kind of a hidden secret in FFX county. Some really nice neighborhoods, too.

Glad I expressed no view on this one - we're in Alice-in-Wonderland territory here where each poster gets to decide what's east and west. I wouldn't have thought anyone would quibble with the Edison poster since clearly there are kids who live in the western part of the county at all four of the schools she mentioned.
