I didn't mean to sound snarky- sorry! Ok, yes, introduce yourself to them. Just pop in and say Hi my name is.... nice to meet you. I feel it would be weird to not know your immediate neighbors. In my well established neighborhood, we had several people come by and say hi, or say hi when we were out and unloading the car. It was very nice.
