Backpack backpack backpack! We had a stylish crossbody and hated it. It swung fwd and wacked the baby if we bent to pick him up. And was a pain during changings - - the backpack lets you be hands free and its soooooo much easier!

We got the LL Bean junior backpack and love it--and DC can take it to school when he's older.

I also dislike my many pocketed skip hop bag (and it hasn't held up all that well after 15 months of use either.) I like having a bag w a strap that can easily be put over the stroller handle bar though so I would prefer a bag w one big strap to a backpack or tote bag, whose straps would be more tricky to just place over the stroller bar. It's all about your personal preference, though. I can see why lots of people like backpacks and tote bags but I wouldn't. In short, I haven't found a great diaper bag but I now know what I don't like. I think just a very simple bag w one big strap and with an easy to clean surface would be good. I do really love our little folding changing pad kit (which is jj Cole brand) it is similar to the skip hop pronto that others recommended. So maybe if I were to do it again, I'd just get a small diaper changing kit like that and a large shoulder bag that I could toss that and other baby stuff into for outings and travel.

This. I liked the opposite of what everyone told me I would. I also frankly didn't ever need a big diaper bag and could never understand why people had such big ones. After a few months with a "many pocketed", highly rated Skip Hop bag, I bought a reasonably sized waxed canvas tote bag from Target. It had NO pockets in it. I loved it. I loved not having stupid-sized pockets or zippers in the way. I loved that i could throw my Skip Hop Pronto pack (which I HIGHLY recommend) into it without having to squeeze and stuff it in.

This time around, I'm probably using the same Target tote bag (which held up remarkably well) and perhaps updating to a slightly larger tote bag if needed.

I am DEFINITELY getting a new, clean Pronto. That thing, that's a lifesaver.

can be pricey, but the best diaper bags around. find one on sale. so amazing - internal organization, functionality, machine washable, excellent resale value.

There is no reason to get a special bag. Instead treat yourself to a nice new tote that you can use after. I use a longchamp and my husband has a backpack.

My inlaws got me a pretty Vera Bradley one.

Here are lots of diaper backpacks that have space for bottles and different compartments. A lot better than one strapped bags. Even grace makes a highly reviewed one for under $30.
