However, I sure wish you looked at college as an opportunity to open your mind instead.

So, if the child of very liberal parents stated a desire to attend a college like... say (for the sake of argument) Grinnell... would you suggest the child consider Washington and Lee or or Liberty so they could "open their mind" and be with people who think very differently from them?

No, that would be like suggesting he go to Reed. I'm suggesting that he be open to a more balanced school than what he has repeatedly posted he's searching for.

OP here. I'm willing to go to a moderate school, as long as there are a good number of preppy conservatives.

Just join a fraternity (assuming you can find one that will take you). Most fraternities are fairly preppy and tend to be socially conservative, relative to the rest of the student body.

Of course, I mean "conservative" in a relative way. A typical "conservative" frat boy is perhaps a moderate republican, not a Pat Buchanan-style arch-paleoconservative.

Not sure where your Presbyterian friends are from but in the South, Presbyterians are pretty much Baptist. Southern schools are heavy on Southern students. In any case, no, I don't pretend to be an expert- check out the book yourself. I'm merely suggesting this kid look into them based on what I've read and know about them because they seem like what he's looking for.

Why Rhodes? What do you know about it? Also, what's the difference between U of Alabama and Auburn?

Rhodes and U of Alabama are very conservative. U of Alabama is more conservative than Auburn. A book called The Alumni Factor breaks down schools in just about every way you can, including political leanings.

The Presbyterians I know who go to Rhodes are similar to Davidson students in their political views.
