Totally agree (for example, University of Chicago does have frats, but their influence on social life is minimal). He can also check out schools with substance free dorms or other affinity dorms, which may offer an alternative to the party scenes. University of Rochester might be a good school, strong stem, good aid from what I understand, and not overpowering greek life.
