Our guinea pig never bit us, unlike all the hamsters we came acrosd. He would nip gently at our clothes when he was tired of being handled. They are gentle creatures unless mistreated.

Another guinea pig "mom" here. My DS got two during the pet unit in fourth grade and the male survived for eight years. He was a member of the family and we miss him. We never bathed him, either, but DS would wipe him down with unscented baby wipes once a week. We chickened out and had our vet clip his nails.

I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm worried about the odor. Do they smell bad? When we were looking at houses, we viewed one where you could tell they definitely had ferrets or some other type of stinky rodent. It was awful.

Also, if you had a choice between hamsters and guinea pigs, which would you choose? My DD is a little scared of the big gps, but I've heard they are more gentle and less prone to biting than hamsters.

Are Guinea pigs at all like rabbits? Do they go into a relaxed state when you turn them upside down and pet their bellies?
