DS went after 1st grade and loves it. It is the best week of the entire year. This year he is going to overnight scout camp too so will have two weeks of sleepaway camp for the summer.
I say take the risk and let her test out her wings a bit. If you a get a call mid-week to come and get her, so be it, but my guess is that she will flourish.
I think you picked a great time to try out a week of sleepaway camp. I think I was the same age when I went to a week of sleepaway camp for the first time. I remember having no issues being away from home, but couldn't stand the food. Mom's was sooo much better. Anyway, camps do provide a great way to meet new friends and be active. Hope your kiddo has fun.

DD went to one week of overnight amp in the Midwest last summer and LOVED it. We decided that it was too far so we are sending her a closer camp for a week this summer to see how she likes it.

Can't say enough about Girl Scout camp. Drop off on Sunday, pick up on Friday. Depending on where you live and which camp you chose, it may only be an hour away from you.
They are extremely well run, and are relatively inexpensive (subsidized by cookie sales - buy cookies!!). Your daughter does need to be registered through GSUSA, but does not need to be a member of a troop.

We sent our daughter to Camp Louise for 1 week after 2nd grade last summer. She loved it. They called it Rookie Camp. She is going this summer for 2 weeks.

Consider a girl scout camp..they are near by and very good value. Lots of options.
