I'm merely stating a fact limited to the handful of Indian people that I am very close to. Of that group, only the wealthy ones travel home. The others say there's a reason their families left India for the US. Sure it's anecdotal--just like every other post on DCUM--but it's true, and valid. You're just throwing rocks.

Find one article about a woman being gang raped on a crowded bus in broad daylight in the US or any country other than India.

Right back atcha! Maybe if you worked in the human rights arena you'd understand where I'm coming from. It's tough to enjoy a vacation when there's so much suffering in your midst. And it weighs heavily on my soul to support countries, policies, and corporations --- even tacitly through tourism --- where human rights violations are rampant. I envy you and your "enlightenment."

Not the same thing at all. Generally speaking, an American woman can travel safely alone in the US, Canada and dozens of civilized countries. In India, that's simply not the case today. Does that mean that it's impossible to travel there without incident? Obviously not. But why bother traveling to India given the issues when there are so many other better countries to visit?
PS - this doesn't make me a racist, needlessly worrisome, an unseasoned traveler, etc.
Of course, so don't travel. An enlightening piece of information related to this article. Goa mentioned in OPs article is a city known for easy availability of drugs. Which is why tourists all over the world, flock there.
Let me fix that for you, pp: "Of course, so don't travel TO INDIA."
Tourists are commonly victimized in the main tourist areas. Google it.
Why do you care if people avoid travel to India? It's a big world with lots of cool places to see. Broaden your horizons.
