For pete's sake, my husband is traveling. He left the day of the blizzard knowing that it was coming and that he wouldn't make it back on Saturday as planned. He's bummed and I am too. I'll manage despite having a 3 year old and an older child. My husband is not terrible, nor is PP.

People are jerks. Our nonprofit is open today. A manager was complaining that one of the supervisors encouraged staffers who ordinarily don't have flexibility to work from home today if they chose. NOTHING we do is essential or even in the same universe as essential, and all the senior people have flexibility and are going to be nowhere near the office. Luckily the VP ignored the complainer and went on to issue the same guidance to ALL staffers. A little human decency goes a long way.

OP, who's in charge today if your bosses are out of the office? Can you appeal to their sense of reason.

Don't ask. Put the request in writing/ email. Specifically state you feel leaving later is unsafe. Force them to approve or deny in writing. No one wants to get sued when you have an accident. No one wants to be the manager who said no and caused you to be in an accident. It would come back and hurt them too -- a lawyer (not practicing law or giving legal advice on the internet!! Just going with common sense)

I am one of the above and our work has 4 wheel drive vehicles pick us up.

Their lack of concern for your safety is appalling.

FWIW a lot of local bus systems are already stopping service early afternoon. AKA WALKING IN THE FUCKING SNOW.

This is one of the 1,000 reasons why I will never support a Republican candidate on any level. We need much more progressive workplace laws to address creepy sounding employers like this.
