If it is that solid, why does it does it have a 6 on greatschools?

I know dozens of parents who care about education who've had kids attend Oak View and I've never heard any complaints. It's a solid elementary school.

aw man, I went to Oak View in the 70s. I'm sad to think people think poorly of my alma mater.

Bump!

I’d love current parent takes on OV especially if you looked at private or Catholic Schools.

Not sending my kid to private was a mistake I continue to regret. It's different for every kid, but we've been beyond disappointed in fcps. I have a friend whose kid goes to St. Leo's, and their experience has been so different, so much more positive in every way, and their kid is ahead of ours even though our kid is a good student. We aren't at Oak View, but are at one of the schools close to it. I'd say that if you have an outgoing kid who tends to do well in any situation, they will be fine in fcps. Kids who need a little more tlc will not thrive as much as they might at private.

They just had a pep rally about positivity last week, and the principal and AP are immediately responsive to any concerns. There are lots of after school programs and fun events. Academically, we find it to be a really great school. They have local level AAP for grades 3-6 but the classes are flexible too. Even if your child doesn't qualify for full-time AAP, they can be in the advanced level in specific subjects. I'm picky about schools because I have an education background, and I feel like OVES really values all the children.

That's a very valid point. We looked at homes that fed into Oakview, but thought the split feeder might be an issue. I think for AAP they have local level IV, and Willow Oaks and Frost are the centers. Strangely despite being right next to Robinson, a kid in the AAP program could spend 3-8 being bussed to a center.

But I think all of the Robinson feeders are wonky for AAP kids. The other schools send their kids to White Oaks and Lake Braddock.

I've heard good things about Oak View, but really every single elementary around these parts is strong. Find the house you like.

Definitely not strong academically. This is why we plan to leave as other families already did for that and other reasons. “OVES really values all the children”?
That is not true.

Based on personal experience, I only can tell you one good thing: look for a better school. Your child deserve a better education.

Than which school? Can you share your experience?

Invest your time to find a better school than OV. I can only tell you that my experience has its weight on the negative side. Of course there are positives but they are 1 or 2.

Can you elaborate?

Not at this time. Sorry

That's unfortunate that you don't feel comfortable sharing some general thoughts on an anonymous board. It could be helpful to all of the folks on here that want to make the correct decision for their children. It is hard to believe a blanket "find a better school".
