I'm so sorry OP, it does get better. I have an ex who is normally a nice person, who behaved horribly leading leading up to our divorce. I think she felt really guilty about wanting the divorce and was afraid someone would make an argument that would convince her to try and reconcile. So she unconsciously behaved badly enough that I would NEVER have her back. It is really hard to see someone you once loved, who once loved you be so cruel, but your life will get better.

Actually the timing kind of makes sense from his perspective. I'm assuming he's guessing you won't fight it under the circumstances.

Ugh sorry. My ex SIL told my brother she wanted a divorce the day after my mom's funeral. Her way of telling him? " well now that your mom is dead I can finally tell you i want a divorce". Granted they were in trouble long before our mom got sick, but still. I'm sorry OP, but at least you're not stuck with an asshole anymore.

I know someone whose husband asked for a divorce the day she found out she had terminal breast cancer and it wasn't Newt Gingrich.

OP, I'm currently working through the paperwork and tasks associated with my mom's recent death, so I know how unbelievably nightmarish it's going to be to try and do that stuff for your dad while also dealing with a divorce. I still believe that once you are through all this, you are going to be very glad to be free of this loser. {{{hugs}}}

Of course I'm not perfect but tried very hard, moved all over the country with him for his job and was always supportive. But even still, as PP said, maybe not three days when my dad's not even buried yet? He's a non-issue to me now, though, for sure.

Not a lawyer (I am but don't practice, I work in nonprofit). But I completely understand, having worked Big Law why you would ask that.

Even if someone wants a divorce and both parties agree it is for the best, there are still times when a person has to take themselves out of the spouse role and be a decent human beings. Hugs to you in this time of need.
