Blood out of sheets, undies, pants, etc: pour hydrogen peroxide on stain, while that section of fabric is in a bowl, it will foam like crazy (which is cool). I leave it to sit for about 10 minutes, then rub it and create some heat, then immediately wash in laundry. If you leave the clothes overnight in the hydrogen peroxide, you will have a hole! (Been there...) So rub the clothes in the peroxide, then into the laundry. And this should be done the day it happens, not a week later.
And I had a horrible time with blood on sheets as a teen because of stupid pads. Never thought of a towel! She can make the transition to pads soon, my 14 year old niece users them, they are so freeing! Yes, plastic applicator...

And, yes, less flow at night doesn't mean it's gone during the day. And, yes, she shoukd write a code on day 1 in her calender to keep track of them. They will be regular at some point and that's so nice to be somewhat prepared. I hate that about being in perimenopause, there is NO schedule! Argh!

Agree about the tracking! She may get surprised again in z few months and that is kind of awful. At least if she has a sense it's coming that world be great.

Dr Bronner's Soap gets blood out of sheets - I rub it briskly at the sink, rinse in warm water maybe repeat. It's amazing. It even worked on an old stain. Of course I use it as my hand soap too (diluted half water).

you did great. Might be a good idea to have some midol or pamprin (or even good old advil) on hand to manage pain, bloating and other symptoms. It really makes all the difference in the world. Midol and Pamprin can be helpful in the days leading up to her period too.

Also, one thing I wish I had learned at your daughters age is to track my cycle on a calendar (or app nowadays.) I didn't start doing this until I tried to get pregnant in my 30s and had always thought my cycle was irregular. It was actually like clockwork but on a shorter than 28 day cycle so it felt irregular. If your daughter learns to track her cycle and can start to see a pattern (which could take a year at the beginning) then she can always be prepared. I SOOO wish someone had taught me that!

+1. The first two days of my period have always been very heavy, and I move around a lot at night, so the towel just doesn't quite cut it. I would suggest a mattress pad under white sheets. Teens don't know when it's going to start, when the flow is going to heavier, etc. A tampon and an overnight pad with wings can keep most leaks from happening. The mattress pad will keep the mattress from being stained (or smelling), white sheets can be bleached. I also recommend wearing white pjs, or no pjs (but as her dad, you might not want to suggest that). Shower in the morning, maybe a bit of laundry with bleach, everything is back to normal.

Op, it was so nice of you to let her stay home. My mom didn't let me do that, and the first few months I had awful awful pain.

Definitely let her take motrin/advil, especially at night, and probably let her have a variety of supplies because it takes some time to figure out what you need, when.

Second tip - it's ok for her to use tampons now, but they leak so she should back it up with a pad.

Yes to Advil. Also, hot baths. Wonderful for cramps, if that becomes a problem.

I will just add one little thing- when I got mine, I had a lot of trouble with leaking onto my sheets at night and was really embarrassed about it, especially when it happened at my dad's house. Maybe tell her she can sleep on a folded up towel or something. It was my friend's mother at a sleep-over that suggested that when I was afraid to go to sleep one night because I wasn't at home and I had my period.
