A college admissions professional, when asked about H.P. for our daughter said, "Don't, it's where the wealthy divorced parents dump their troubled children". Sorry to put it so bluntly, but that was our experience.

It's too expensive to be red neck. VERY expensive.

I was impressed with academic programs and commitment to what they call experiential learning. I call it real life, but they integrate into their curriculum. I am PP whose daughter applied. We visited the school twice, talked to several students, and DD sat in on a class and I absolutely did NOT get the redneck vibe. More of an artsy vibe with a bit of preppy thrown in.

I read that about 75% of the students come from out of state now.

We visited the campus and attended a reception here for admitted students with our DD. It had a preppy, artsy, upscale vibe and the kids she interacted with seemed like they came from affluent backgrounds. Not much socioeconomic diversity. Also no tobacco chewing or rebel flag flying types among the kids she saw. The President seems to be working hard to improve academics but it seems like there is much more to do. Our DD ultimately chose a different school with a stronger academic reputation.

Know VERY Rich kid who graduated from there about 8 years ago. He was not known to be great student and sort of a screw up in high school but had very positives things to say at High Point. Seemed to get on right track there so to speak. Anyway, he is now quite successful, of course did have some family connections but successful in different field. Any school can be a fit for someone! Also very mature and nice for a 28 year old.

Heard it has an incredible facility but don't think its considered to be a really good academic school. Not to say this coudl not change. One person we know has as son there and from what I heard he is very very happy.

To a former poster never refer to a college kid as being dumb, how degrading. If they are in college, they are smart enough to know to get an education WHEREVER that might be......kudos to them. I feel sorry for YOUR kids.
