??? It's way more diverse than most private universities, when you consider "diversity" the right way -- multiplicity of cultural perspectives, backgrounds and even nationalities. Not just about having some token black studies program, sorry

I don't know about your drugs-related comment, but I agree about the out-of-state population--probably about 3/4 are non from Florida.

My sister's best friend went there. Now my sister and her friend were not innocent types but her friend was like a kid at a candy store when she got to miami. Awash in molly, horse, coke, oxy. It is a very fast school that even party kids from the north east who get 'faded' find it insane with respect to the drug culture.

South Florida's law market isn't that great relative to its size, and Miami's law school is consistently ranked below FSU and UF Law.

Not that it's a bad law school -- it's just expensive. For in-state students, it's far more economical to go to one of the better state schools. If money isn't a problem, go for it. Miami is a good school, just not a good deal.

I agree. And it has a Law School and a Medical School on campus, so if you walk around its a very diverse environment in every sense of the word. Its a good school for getting internships since there are lots of bug company that make Miami their headquarters for the Americas and there are few good universities in southern Florida. You daughter's friends may have hit a blip i.e. lots of female applicants form this area.

I don't think anyone can seriously complain about an under-representation of minority Asians when it comes to higher education (more likely is a reverse-discrimination claim). University of Miami's student population self-reports as 49% white.

Actually threading population has really increased the last 3 years- also much harder to get into U Miami then U of Florida

Saying that Floridians prefer UF over UM doesn't prove much considering one is 3x the cost of the other. Do pps not understand that The University of Miami is private and The University of Florida is public? Given the choice, probably most Virginians would choose UVA over a closely but lower ranked private.

In fairness, Miami might not seem that expensive to someone from DC, where the cost of living and incomes are much higher than Florida.

They have to be OOS to be available to afford that high tuition....
