We like to enjoy the warmth of the fire while we watch TV, so it wouldn't make sense to have them in separate rooms. I don't really want to have to go into the basement just to watch TV.
We watch our fireplace in the living room and our TV in the basement.

I am pretty set on 60", but I am going with a 4k set, so the viewing distance would be no issue regardless.

That wall is too small and cuts into the flow of the staors.Anonymous wrote:How about along the wall of the Stair case, on a low fixture?

One wall is all windows and the wall with the mantle has windows on either side, so the TV would not only be off center, but block windows. The third wall is the side of a staircase and a traffic area that will not work. The "back" of the family room area is the kitchen.
I feel your frustration. We have an open concept living room plus a big sectional so literally the only place to put our tv is in a corner that blocks 90% of the only window (other than glass back patio door). I freaking hate it but dh refuses to mount the tv over the fireplace. It sucks and one of the many reasons I've grown to hate our home.
