Meh, I want my kid outside for sure. But I think anything below 25 degrees warrants a much shorter walk or playground visit. Some toddlers won't keep their gloves on (for ex.) so having his hands exposed for an extended period of time this morning (it was 16 degrees) wouldn't be okay.

This would really bother me. It's beautifully sunny out and no wind. Assuming everyone has access to appropriate clothing, there's no reason to keep them inside. I'd switch schools this is just lazy teaching.

You mean the children go outside for fresh air, and a healthful run-around? That's good, and I'm sure you can afford to equip your children appropriately.

Yes. Our preschool sends them out for the entire morning (930-1230), but it's an outdoors program so you know what you are getting into when you enroll. Sent ds off in his winter jacket, hat, gloves and warm boots and a hag of extra layers. He will be fine. If it was raining today they probably would've gone inside because it's so cold.

Yes! It's one of the reasons I chose the school. Outdoors 2x a day unless there is a legit heat or cold advisory from the Weather Service. Bundle em up--my kid's behavior is SO much better when he gets his outdoor active time each day.

They also go out several times a day through all the grades.

Thank goodness ours *lets* them go outside on cold (and rainy days). Last year I believe there was only one day where they determined it was too cold to be safe (was in the single digits). One of the reasons we love, and our kids love, the school so much.

We live in the Midwest, and DS's preschool has outdoor recess if it's over 20 degrees. That means they went outside yesterday when it was 21.

BUT!

I lived in the DC area for 30 years, and it's a very different mindset. When we lived there, I couldn't have imagined driving in the snow, or playing outside when it was freezing out then. It won't hurt the kids (or adults!) but it's hard to get used to when it happens so infrequently. Here, if it gets over 25 degrees, I'm dragging my kid out on a nature walk!

There is no bad weather; only inappropriate clothing.

+1 same for us, and I'm very happy about it. Kids go out unless it is raining or excessively muddy.

They go out if it is 32 or above, not if it is below. I don't see the issue.

They don't make them go out. They let them go out. As long as they're dressed appropriately, the kids love it. Getting them good clothes for all weather can be spendy but is worth it. I suggest you look at Lands End outerwear.
