We have warm gray kitchen cabinets with a creamy granite and a warm mid-tone bamboo floor. It looks amazing and we have no regrets. It may look dated in ten years, but white or wood tone cabinets look dated right now.

When we were looking at houses 99% of the homes we saw were full of brown...wood cabinets, wood floor, tan backsplash, brown granite, tan carpet. Some people may prefer brown. We prefer gray. When we get sick of it, we'll change it.

We have gray kitchen cabinets now, and no regrets. We like it and I don't care what other people think of it. We had a brand new kitchen in our previous house that was a decade old when we sold it, and the maple cabinets looked dated, even though people here are claiming that they are "timeless". EVERYTHING will look dated in 10 to 20 years, that is just the reality of time and design. If our cabinets start to bug me in a few years, then we will paint or stain them a new color and swap out the hardware.

I will mention OP that while our cabinetry is gray, all of our other design choices are pretty traditional. The paint on the wall is a pale silvery white, white quartz, classic white subway tile backsplash, stainless sink, regular maple hardwood floors, and regular white plantation shutters. We wanted our cabinetry to stand out, but we also didn't want to live in a sea of gray, so that color really isn't present anywhere else.

Do what you want, don't ask strangers to make design choices in the home that you have to live in.

Kitchens are supposed to be cheery and warm, not cold and sleek. Maybe a grey accent (backsplash?) but keep the central theme bold.

Word. I hate white cabinets with a passion, but if someone wanted them, or burnt orange for that matter, I'd say go for it. . What people can't seem to get through their heads is that people are allowed to have different tastes and styles in the home that THEY live in.

When I moved into my house, the kitchen had white cabinets, white counters, white flooring, and a white island in the middle. It looked like a damn operating room. I now have light maple cabinets, granite counters, and sand-colored floors. It looks organic and natural. I still can't wrap my brain around those gray cabinets everybody is getting these days.

Painted cabinets are okay but eventually, the paint is going to chip, especially on the drawer fronts.

Agree that white is timeless. My preference would be all white. Maybe just do the island cabinetry in gray, then it's less hassle to repair if you get tired of it.

Gray looks like primer to me. It makes me want to ask when the top color is going on.

I think the right color grey is a neutral and would look nice. A warm grey.

I have antique white cabinets and beyond wiping spills they don't need special maintenance.
My kitchen has lots of windows, roof windows and blue walls. Everything looks luminous. You can pair your white cabs with grey walls, and depending on the grey it could look beautiful... or much too dark, if your kitchen is not well lit. Grey is tricky, and you have to watch out for the undertones - warm undertones if your white is warm, and cold with cold.

White is classic and timeless. It keeps coming back generation after generation. As long as you keep the cabinet designs classic white will stand the test of time.

Same with natural woodtones. Classic designs in natural woodtones will also have more staying power.

Gray is a trend. Just like avacado. And brown. And burnt orange or mustard.

We were house-hunting in the Princeton NJ area about 8 years ago...and saw a house with -- I kid you not -- burnt orange shiny lacquer cabinets. It was a fairly new renovation as well -- the cabinets were good quality -- but good God who thought it would be a good idea to choose burnt orange lacquer cabinets?

On the other hand I believe that house also had fake palm trees surrounding the goldfish pond in the back yard. Wonder if they ever found a buyer...

Hijacking for a second: can someone recommend a grey paint color for the kitchen? My cabinets are almond-colored, straight out of 1994, but I don't hate them (and can't afford a renovation right now anyway). Appliances are stainless.
