We've stayed at relative's homes and a couple of times at hotels. Both can work for us. If I have to choose between cramming into a house and possibly not having a real bed to sleep on - hotel.

In our house we have dogs but we keep them out of the guest areas so guests are never dealing with fur in their rooms. However, the common areas are fair game for everyone - including the dogs. People are welcome to stay but if they prefer a hotel we are not offended - At All.

Do what makes you feel comfortable.

Mattresses at my in laws are 40 years old. No one sleeps well there. Sigh.
