So just because I do the majority of the laundry and some other "indoor" tasks doesn't mean that we don't operate as equals.

Strange. Do you just not want to do those chores?

I do trash and recycling as much as DH because I'm a grown woman.

Same here. Except it is rarely still warm by the time we get it out of the dryer.

I wash, fold, hang, put away all personal clothes. My husband does towels because the towel cabinet is too high for me to reach. I just bought a towel rack so when he puts it up I can save everything. It takes a few minutes, what's the power struggle ?

He irons his clothes.

Nope. He does his own and puts it away. He was raised by a single mom and is self-sufficient. I do kids, household and mine.

Whaaat? Of course I don't. I will sometimes throw his stuff in the dryer if I need the washer, but I'm not his mother. I'm not doing his laundry and certainly won't be putting it away. I do it for my son...but only because he's an infant.

OP here. Glad to see that it's not just us!

And I realize that the way we handle this particular chore may be a quirk of our relationship. We don't have 'officially' assigned chores. If we did, and my chore was laundry, then of course it would make sense to complete the whole job.

The thing that got me was the utter disbelief that I didn't put my husband's clothes away, and thus the underlying assumption that this is a 'woman's job.' Really happy that this is not the norm.

My husband does all the washing/drying. I do all the folding/putting away. We're 20 yrs in (I'm 45, he's 55) and it works except when I slack off...

My 75 year old mom is always surprised that DH does his own laundry. She scoffs at me, "why don't you do it for him? ??" I do mine, our son's, and 80% of the miscellaneous like sheets and towels. My husband tells her all the time that he'd rather do his own anyway. He has an idea of which clothes are dirty and when he'll need them to be clean and put away, whereas when I do his laundry, i do it when the hamper is full. I suppose someone better at it would just do a load every day so that their spouse's laundry was always clean and ready to go. But

I do mine and 5yo DS's; DH does his own. DH also usually washes the sheets and towels, and I generally fold them and put them away.

I'm a SAHM and I do the laundry and put it away. I'm great at doing the laundry but don't love the folding and putting away part. Often I use our guest room as laundry central and tell everyone to find their own stuff in the sorted piles.

This is us too.

We both do the laundry, fairly equally. Pretty much whomever has time sorts and starts a load. We both fold whatever is clean. I put away mine and DD's (3yrs) and DH puts her s own away. Works for us.

+1

I fold a little only so things won't get wrinkly. DH is a grown man and can put his own clothes away. Just like my young kids can.

Whoever takes it out of the dryer folds or hangs it while it is still warm. We each put our own away.
