She shadowed at both GC and SJC. She loved both. She's really into sports and found SJC to be a really diverse and welcoming environment.
I have no doubt that she would thrive either place, but GC is a bit closer to home.

She didn't want to go to girls only. Choate is co-ed and is a bit of a long shot, given her SSAT score, but her dad is an alumnus and she really wants to go there.

I was worried about the same for DD at her new private school but all the odd at those schools play sports and do other extra activities and they are fine.
DD is thriving (at a sister school).
The private schools do a good job at not piling on useless homework (just meaningful homework) so the kids can have lives besides school.

DD scored similarly she is thriving.

I'd cross St Johns off the list - it's more like a public high school.

Prep might be the least pressure cooker but please ask others for a more in depth review

It really depends on what you are looking to get out of the HS experience, PP. If his grades are as strong as his scores OP, and he's happy enough in DCPS, he'll have a far better shot at a prestigious college by being a top student at Wilson. There is something about excelling there that excites the Ivies & other top schools. Whereas if he goes to private, he won't be as differentiated from all the other top kids fighting it out for slots. Something to think about...

Interesting...this was our gripe with public school.

My DD had similar scores and is at one of the Big 3. She would say that public felt like a pressure cooker and her time so far at private school has been a dream. She switched for 9th grade. This includes participating in a sport year round.

I understand what you are saying but...Is there any quantitative data to support your statement? Have many kids gone to Ivies from Wilson in the last 5 years? Any white kids? Maybe I should start a new thread in the public school forum.
