What if you take away their phones and unplug their computers and announce "I'm ready for my card and crappy gifts now!". Buy like one slice of cake and proceed to eat it yourself in case they don't respond. If they ask where their cake is, say "If you wanted cake, you could have baked one."

Sorry OP. I would consider telling them that you are hurt there were no gifts or cards to celebrate.

Agree that kids are self absorbed at that point, but still, if you went out to dinner, I would think they would at least hand you a couple presents.

My husband's birthday is tomorrow, on the 21st. We have been joking the last couple of years that we should actually celebrate his birthday on June 21st, when the weather is warm, BBQs and the pool can be had, and other things. Right around Christmas, no one is ever in town. He gets really bummed out. I have been trying to make it what I can the past few years, but it is also a day that becomes a flashpoint with his dad for various reasons, and we have three little kids, so it is always so chaotic and he and I can't get away as well. So maybe just try having it at a time when things aren't quite so emotional and bogged down in the holidays?

They know it's a milestone. My 8 year old knows this. They sound selfish. Are they always like this? That is unfortunate for their future families.

Go out with your best friend or other friends. Write all three of them letters as pp mentioned.

If they knew that is very shameful. My husband sometimes forgets but I don't like counting birthdays anymore so it doesn't bother me. When he doesn't forget I get a pretty cake and flowers.

It's funny but it bothers me when my kids forget. Like last year. And Mother's Day. And Thanksgiving. Probably Christmas.

So this year I decided to forget them so they can feel the love too. Today one had a birthday. I did nothing. Another coming soon. I will do nothing.

Buy yourself something to remember 50 and forget their birthdays this year.
