Some parents are proud and like to show things off when it comes to their kids and their accomplishments. Maybe a little strange, but I think it's flattering in this case.
I bet that's exactly it. I don't think it's weird at all.
PP here that said "I bet that's exactly it"--I think this may be especially true if when THEY were at that stage of their life (younger, with young kids, etc) if they were struggling and maybe didn't have a nice home.
My husband and I bought a new construction home when we first married--we actually closed on it a few weeks after our wedding, but started the buying process months before. My grandmother came out to visit (from across the country) for my bridal shower a few weeks before the wedding, and the construction people let us do a "walk through" of the house in progress. It was just a small, single story ranch house--nothing fancy, but she was very impressed. She grew up in the depression, married my grandfather right after WWII when there was a housing shortage and lots of newlywed couples were living with family or tiny substandard apartments. She was so excited for me that we were starting off our marriage in a home of our own like that. If she had been the picture taking type-I'm sure she would have been snapping lots of pictures too
I wonder if it's something like that for your inlaws?
