I bet that's exactly it. I don't think it's weird at all.

PP here that said "I bet that's exactly it"--I think this may be especially true if when THEY were at that stage of their life (younger, with young kids, etc) if they were struggling and maybe didn't have a nice home.

My husband and I bought a new construction home when we first married--we actually closed on it a few weeks after our wedding, but started the buying process months before. My grandmother came out to visit (from across the country) for my bridal shower a few weeks before the wedding, and the construction people let us do a "walk through" of the house in progress. It was just a small, single story ranch house--nothing fancy, but she was very impressed. She grew up in the depression, married my grandfather right after WWII when there was a housing shortage and lots of newlywed couples were living with family or tiny substandard apartments. She was so excited for me that we were starting off our marriage in a home of our own like that. If she had been the picture taking type-I'm sure she would have been snapping lots of pictures too

I wonder if it's something like that for your inlaws?

My mom took pictures of her apartment to show off her renovations to me. My aunt took a picture of the new curtains that my cousin bought. I didn't care, but it was harmless, and the curtains were quite nice, and I got some ideas for my place.

Maybe you have a nice place, and parents like to show it off to their friends and other family. No big deal.

It is one thing to take an exterior photo and to take a few photos WITH PEOPLE IN THEM of the common spaces, but I wouldn't want them entering my bedroom/placese they didn't NEED to be in (closets, guest rooms that weren't being used), let alone take "realtor"-like photos. Tell them you don't want them to share them if it bothers you.

A home tour with the hosts there is one thing. Poking around and taking photos of rooms you don't need to be in? NOPE.

Are you slovenly or just generally belligerent?

These are family members.

No, not at all. Either they want to show it to relatives and friends. Or they want to just have a record of how the house looked. I would not imagine that they are taking pictures to disparage it and make fun of their son's house.

When we bought a new house we created an iphone photo share so that our parents could both see pictures of all the rooms and the floorplan. I know for a fact that they showed it to everyone and we didn't mind.

No, it wouldn't weird me out at all. Old people do strange things sometimes--I'm sure I will too!

Why would I even care?

My parents would do something like that. I have a lot of extended family I don't see often up where they live, so I can totally imagine my mom taking pictures and showing them to family in an "Look at Janie's new house!" way. If you are uncomfortable for personal or security reasons, just ask them not to share pictures of the inside of the house with people. They will think you are odd, and you think they are odd, but no one should be hurt/offended.

OP here. I think that's what bothers me - it feels like my privacy has been invaded.

OP I am amused at how PP guessed it . Because , this is a non issue ( along with things like them buying bed sheets that didn't match room decor)
I can understand how you are feeling though. They are just showing off. ( my son, my DIL live in a nice house). Chill

This is the OP- they are Irish Catholic.

They're excited/proud. They care.

It may be weird, dumb, etc.
