Sure, but childhood memories (What was DF like as a kid?) and pop culture (Have you seen the new Star Wars movie?) are also options. I'm a huge introvert and hate small talk and I can still figure it out. You ask questions and go from there.

I am an introvert and really - you can't think of anything to talk about? His job, his friends, how their childhood was, his favorite sport/team/hobby/food. The weather? Etc?

Do not Try to talk to him If he is watching a game. Incredibly annoying when someone does this. If you do not know, or understand, fooitball, do not try to pretend that you do.
