We are a month in as a Barnard family and daughter is very happy and loving school, which is the most important thing for a 3 year old's school experience. Communication with our daughter's teacher is great - she uses Remind so we get classroom announcements and are able to text with her, we can get a quick update at drop-off or pickup, and we had all our outstanding questions answered at last week's back to school night. I'm not that concerned with schoolwide communications - what is important is communicating with our daughter's teacher who is with her everyday and that has been stellar.

You aren't prepared for DCPS if you are turned off by a lack of a website. (that actually exists)

It's OK, the Barnard website issue is reflective of the school's situation. We left it 2 years ago and I can say that at the time, the PTA was very old school and egalitarian, the fundraising was minimal, the previous PTA president didn't really do email, there were few extracurriculars offered that you might see organized by a wealthier/hands-on PTA at a WOTP with high expectations. I'm delighted they have a functioning website, someone put some time and effort into it...We couldn't be the change we wanted to see, we left for a school that had those things in place. But we still miss Grace Reid, the teachers, they have a good thing going at Barnard...it's getting so popular that they can afford to have an attitude, like LAMB, Yu Ying or Haynes i.e. if you don't want the spot, give it to someone who needs it.

You do realize that Dcps does not host school websites, right? It's typically the PTA or some engaged parent who makes it happen. If you're a parent at Barnard and the website is important to you, YOU need to donate some time and expertise to make it happen. If you're a parent who wants your school to be ready made without you having to lift a finger, time to move wotp. It takes time and consistent investment to build even the things we assume are standard, like websites. DCPS should be coordinating website efforts of their schools, but they don't.

You are definitely not "normal and nice go with the flow". You're nutty. The difference is, most of the truly nutty people in DC can afford to move to Janney where they belong.
