Same with us, pretty much! (minus the NYE part).
We had the ring custom made so that we could put a CZ into a really pretty setting (great decision IMO). Ring was 3k complete with center stone. DH picked it up and proposed later that day. It was supposed to be a surprise, but since I knew it was coming any second, it was really obvious to me when I saw his eyes darting around for the right spot to prop down in a park.
He paid for the ring, and I can't imagine it being any other way. Is he going to pop out our kids equally? I don't think so. Call me old fashioned!

She was surprised! I was so nervous that day I had very little appetite. She later confessed that my loss of appetite was a giveaway that "something" was up, but she didn't expect a propsal and ring.
I would have HATED this!
I knew he was buying a rug but didn't know when. Proposal was at dinner in a restaurant, which was way too public for my taste, but I still said yes ?

Yes, she knew I had the ring - she had already helped pick it out. I gave it to her a couple days after picking it up. I probably spent minutes planning the proposal itself.

DW here. DH bought the ring 6 weeks before he proposed. I didn't know he had it. He made a book he used during the proposal, so putting it together online then ordering it, maybe a month? But no planning beyond that.
