These recommendations are mostly terrible. Go to Total Wine and talk to people, or pick out staff picks in your comfortable price point. Find something that is not available at 7-11.

OP here , whenever I serve Rieslings folk complain they are too sweet.


You could try something on the less sweet end of the scale like a Gewürztraminer.

I really like alamos Malbec (2014). I'm far from a wine expert, but I keep coming back to it. Usually about $11.

OP here: thank you for all the suggestions. I usually go to a wine store and ask but in this case I want to amass a few bottles of each type just to have on hand that paid with a wider variety of food (blasphemy I know, but I am a wine been)

Another recc for these--so good!

Apothic Red is also excellent (I find their white too sweet).

Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand have been very good lately. Trader Joe's has a few that are light and very drinkable on their own or with food.

I really like this one and can usually manage to find it on sale (in Canada but I'm sure it's similar in the US). It works with pretty much any food that pairs well with white wine to start with.

Otherwise, just go to your local store and ask for recommendations. The more you try, the more you'll discover your preferences and it'll get easier to know what you like with a certain degree of consistency.
