And, to my mind, they should pay you for the air BNB since they cancelled when the doc said it would be ok to go. They really ought to acknowledge that this is about their own anxieties.
Not unless they suggested that OP and her family get nonrefundable tickets. Also, since apparently traveling to NYC in January is no big deal for this elderly couple after a recent heart attack, surely OP can make it to NYC with her family to enjoy the time there. I cannot imagine asking my parents for the money - Oh dad, since you aren't feeling well enough to travel because of the HEART ATTACK YOU JUST HAD, can you refund my money? Talk about selfish!
