There's a huge difference between an 8 year old and a 12 year old.

As to care.com, every site groups ages differently. If you look at the profiles, ages are 0-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-10 and 11+.

Personally I group like this:
birth-starting to walk: infant
walking to 2.5/3: toddler
2.5/3-5: preschool (maybe kindergarten)
6-9: elementary
10-12: tween
13+: teen

I have an elder DS and a younger DD. She's been wearing his hand-me-down shirts forever. Boys clothing FTW!! It's amazing to me how sheer girls' items are!! I could totally see using leotards or undershirts of any kind---anything, bra-like or not----to help cover her little brown nipples.

None of this would bother me in the least.

I do think a special, before Xmas package is warranted. She'll appreciate the discretion later. All of the charm of the tale without any humiliation come Xmas morning.

My this topic has brought out the nasty know it alls.
Many 6-8yr olds wear crop tops and in doing so helps when the time comes to move onto bras. I thought this was sweet that she put it on her list. Maybe she put it on there because she has begun to bud and using it as a way to let her mom know. A sort of a good way to start The talk.

For those that are moaning about this being on the tween/teen forum children from 8-12 are considered Tweens.

Don't you see the irony? She already has the over the head bras which is just as useful to her as the kind she wants.

This has nothing to do with needs vs wants , and everything to do with an obsession to steer girls away from anything feminine and growing up.

Keep the Christmas list but no don't buy it as a Christmas present.

Can you imagine those gift opening pictures and how she will feel about his when she is 13. It's a dorky kid request on a Christmas list and she will realize it when she is older and wonder why as an adult you didn't.

If she wants a bra, buy her one on a normal shopping trip to the store.

Just get her one, what's the big deal?
Justice has good bra designs for this age group.

She'll be 9 in a couple of months. So technically a tween.

Also, as a former girl (now aged, wise woman) tenderness in the breast bud area can form b/f the actual buds do. And a protective coating over the buds can be much appreciated. Probably akin to wearing a cup for boys.

Maybe it's a social thing. Girls develop physically at earlier ages now. Maybe she wants to fit in with her cohorts. I don't attach anything nefarious to wanting a bra. (And it will make a charming family anecdote years from now when Janie wanted a bra on her Christmas list.)

I don't see the harm in getting her a bra.

A body never dictates the need for a bra. There is no objective need for a bra. Girls and women of all sizes and ages have made it through life without a bra for millennia. So, when should a person get a bra? When the person wants a bra.

Okay but what if that's not until she's 16?
Maybe wearing a bra would help her feel more confident or part of her peers at age 11 when they are wearing bras would you refuse to get her one even if physically she didn't need it?

Mry I've seen 9 year olds which OP's daughter nearly is be considered tweens elsewhere. I guess I don't see the harm in it.
