Just to save you the trouble, almost no teenage boys care about getting a personalized ornament.
Other ideas sound great. And thank you to the guitar suggestion. My son had asked for a guitar and I'd forgotten completely.

Yes. this is us. We're doing okay. There are good days and not so good days. Thanksgiving was good for the most part his gf stayed with her family and he had Thanksgiving with us without much incident. He really hit it off with my Grandpa who is the rough around the edges, ex- Marine doesn't really like anyone type.

OP, have you done stuff like get him a stocking made with his name? Preferably one that matches your other ones? My stepdaughters were oddly touched by this gesture in my house.

I'm ashamed to admit I've only done a little bit of decorating. We don't have a tree up yet, but we plan on picking one out later today or tomorrow. I usually don't hang stockings until Christmas Eve as away of prepping for Santa's arrival, but I suppose I could change that tradition a bit. His stocking would be different, an old family friend made us a set when our youngest was a baby, but she's no longer with us, so I can't ask her to make another. I was planning on buying a little stocking and hanging it up with the girls as a way of telling them there's a baby on the way, maybe I can get him one that matches the baby's so it won't be too different.

I like the idea of establishing some kind of personalized gift for each family member. Maybe put up an ornament with each kids photo, or buy a personalized cocoa mug for each kid and the parents. Get the cool ten presents too of course, but this would be sweet. I'm sure you could find something on pinterest!
I would be careful about doing the you're part of our family stuff. You might unintentionally make him feel worse. Not saying not to do it, jut little touches here and there and not make a big deal out if it.
Maybe privately ask him if there are any Christmas traditions he'd like to share with the family.
Gift ideas maybe you can do a memory book for him of his parents and whatnot.
Since he likes guitar is he in a band? Maybe you can set up a recording session? I don't know the cost, but it could be fun and I'm big on experience gifts.
Sneakers you can't go wrong with those. My boys like Nike.

My kids get their own ornament each year that usually has something to do with big events that happened for them that year or current favorite interests. They love unpacking them and hearing again the stories of why I picked each one. For example, they each have an ornament that represents their first word, a school house for the start of K, some years are the thing they dressed as for Halloween, last year DS got a trumpet because he'd started playing it at school and DD got an ornament representing the sport she started that year.
Another welcoming ornament would be a personalized one with his name plus your others kids together. Really? Teens don't care. That's what they say. It is really awkward to be asked what you want when you don't know the budget.
