We put a nightstand against the ladder because of space constraints, but it would work for your needs too. Big kids can climb over it, but a one year old wouldn’t be tall enough. Do you have a piece of furniture you can move?

For all those suggesting plywood or blocking the ladder with a product, what do I do when my son just scoots up the incline with his feet and his hands on the rails anyway and can still get up to the rest of the rungs? Lol
