OP here. Thanks for the feedback, guys. No offense taken. Let me clarify a few things, too---I did not say it in my original post because I did not want it to be too lengthy.

*Cousins were playing together the whole time except for 1 hour (8;30-9;30) when my mom was snuggling w/ SIL DS and my DD from 8;30-9;30. All other family members were doing their own thing while I was doing the book.

* I do my share, too---for example, I was the ONLY one to clean up the entire downstairs clutter of toys, and I also took the cousins out to the backyard/swing set while everyone was busy doing their own thing. BTW, I instead both-and was happy to do so.

You were rude OP. This is the kind if crap my sister pulls. Let me guess...you never so much as checked in to offer to take over/give a break?

If you sent printed thank you notes, I imagine you also lost out on a few jobs. You send handwritten thank you notes never printed.

OP was unbelievable rude. You never Do major projects at someone else's house unless you ask permission. Even the,m you do not do this on holiday weekends.

Were you just sitting on the computer all day while your mom cooked, cleaned up dishes, watched kids etc?

If so, your mom has a right to be annoyed. She is probably tired from the long day.

Also, as my mom gets older, I realize that even though she loves having her whole family around, we do disturb the peace of her usually silent, organized, spotless house. And that makes her understandably cranky.

I remember once I visited friends for winter break. It was the perfect time for me to do my thank you notes for law firm interviewing because they had a printer. They were a little pissed that I was not available to do any activities during the break. But it was the perfect time for me to do this...selfish me, the friendship is over now.

How could it possibly take you the entire break to do the thank you notes? I've done them for law firm interviewing, and it seems like it should have taken a few hours tops.

+1 It does take hours and they fly by. Its rude to do a project at someone else's house on their computer on a Holiday while they watch your toddler and the whole time saying "they are going to LOVE these pictures!"

I do my fair share of photo books and they take me hours and hours to do even a small one. This was really rude on your part.

Also, it is kind of sad that you are in the demographic of having a toddler and still can't use a basic website and need to rely on your much older parents' computer. If you didn't have this problem you would have been a lot less rude. Also, are you a single mom? If not, why couldn't your DH or partner watch DD and give your poor mom a break?

OP, I think you were rude. Not your mom. She was frustrated with you and she had a right to be.

Yeah, OP, I think you might want to reflect on the fact that you asked whether your mother was rude but you didn't even consider whether you were being rude. You might want to look at that more closely.

Imagine if you invite me and my DD over. I whip out my holiday card and grab your iPad. It's just the best time for me! You are here to watch little Larla! Wait, you are not being rude to me are you...I've only been at it for two hours and this is the.perfect.time. What's that? Get off the computer immediately? You didn't invite me to watch me do this pet project and take care of my toddler? I don't understand!

How long are we talking?
You originally say that your Mom agreed to watch DD, and she had just fallen asleep (assuming nap) and then came in at 9:30 when SIL is putting her kids down, to tell you she was done.
So we're potentially talking 6 or so hours? And while she agreed to watch your DD, she got to watch SIL's kids too, because you needed SIL expertise?

Yeah. I'd be livid. That's 90 minutes or so when you are on someone else's time. Not many many hours.

If I'm wrong and the time was closer to an hour/90 minutes, let it go.
But if you truly ran 6 hours +/- you owe your Mom a huge apology, and you really should spend sometime thinking about why you seem to be so bent out of shape about this, you posted a vent on this site, when you are so clearly in the wrong.
