I got let go at the end of September. While searching I found that my job was posted on indeed since beginning of August. I had been detail documenting my duties for my replacement for months?

Update your resume this weekend and start applying! Don't train or mentor the new employee.

My boss currently manages four of us. She has said over the past month that they're looking to expand by hiring four more people who we would train. I fail to see why others wouldn't be consulted the way we were.

Furthermore, when you expand, you disrupt the group dynamics, which could potentially harm production. It's better to know ahead of time.

I do a lot of hiring and same here. It's not necessarily anything bad about OP.

I used to work at an independent school, led by a sociopathic bully of a head who decided to fire another young teacher on the staff. The head called everyone in the department EXCEPT the teacher being fired into her office and told us that our colleague was on her way out and that we were not to speak to the colleague about any issues connected with work at all because they were involving a lawyer and the other colleague didn't know about the lawyer OR the fact that she was soon to be fired. It was really hard not to pull her aside to warn/prepare her, but I was ultimately too scared of endangering my own job to say anything. I guess my point, OP, is that if I were in your shoes, I would try to discreetly talk to any colleague I thought I could trust to find out if there was something going on (because if my colleague had approached and asked me, I would have told her the truth). I'm sure somebody knows something.

When my boss posted a job ad for a position that was junior to me, with half of my responsibilities, without any input from me, I hit the road. It is not always a sign (my boss was scatterbrained and I was done with that job anyway) but it is best to brush up your resume and get out there.

It could be that they are hiring a second person due to additional workload. Are you on a performance plan? DO you get along well with your boss?

Unless there's a substantial increase in workload, this is a bad sign. It is also a bad sign if they didn't mention it to you before the job posting already went out on indeed.

It's a good sign that your boss proactively told you about it, but it's not good that they decided to hire a second you without consulting you about your work load and upcoming increases. So, I wouldn't wait around to find out what it means. I'd start applying to other jobs now. Sorry OP!
