I've posted before. Our principal will not allow us to do anything except textbook work on the half day Wed before Thanksgiving break. I'd love to give a quiz if the timing was appropriate (for example, end of teaching one concept, going to start a new one Monday). I looked at the list of students marked sick today who I know are going to the beach here in the U.S. or the Caribbean. Just be honest, parents. Your kids told me last week that they wouldn't here.

I think a half day on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a good compromise. I'm totally fine with it.

Given that the kids are off for all sorts of things (state teacher convention, various religious holidays that clearly not everyone celebrates, federal holidays, workdays, etc.) they need to actually "go to school" at some point. So I'd rather have a half day tomorrow and not a full day in June.

I agree with the poster above. These half days are usually a complete waste of time, especially a day like tomorrow when many people, including teachers, will be leaving to travel out of town. When I was going to MCPS growing up, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving was a full school day but I'm sure the absentee rate was very high. My kids beg me every year to let them skip the half day before Thanksgiving, but since we are not traveling I make them go to school.
