I am almost positive I read a romance novel with the name. I do agree with other posters that if someone introduced me to their child I would think the parents are very pretentious. It is a pretty name but it would definitely cause me to have an initial negative pinion of the parents.

I'd go with Madeline or just Emma. Emmaline strikes me as an odd mash up, kind of like Annabeth.

My grandmother, born in 1915, was Emmalyn (born to two new northern european immigrant parents). I always thought it was beautiful. I somehow hate it when I think of it as a southern Emma Lynn, but as northern folk, no one ever thought of it as that. I'd be more leary living south of the mason Dixon with naming my child it, but if I still lived up north, I consider it for my child. I personally prefer the name ending in Lynn as opposed to line though. Line just sounds twangy to me.

Yeah, Dallas is horrific. Any of the other names you're considering beat out Dallas. Dallas sounds like a stripper.

I don't like Emmaline and the middle name Rose is everywhere now... like Grace was five or ten years ago. You can do better.

What would those names be? Naming trends over the last 10 years or so have leaned VERY flowery and feminine (Isabella, Olivia, Ava, Sophia, etc.). If your "solid research" holds up, there's a generation of girly name girls who'll be restricted in their career selection. I think our perceptions of names change over time and generations.

(And I really like Emmaline Rose. She'll probably be a chemical engineer. )

I love Emmaline and keep putting it on our short list, but steering away because Emma is just too popular.

(FWIW, I have pretty standard DCUM name tastes, so I don't think Emmaline is that out there.)

Heidi is okay. Hate April and Delta. Rose is an *okay* middle name, but kind of boring.

My dd is Emmeline and we actually haven't met another young one; a few teen/Tweens. In retrospect, we would have also gone with rose as her middle name as it is my MIL and SIl's middles. We were sleep deprived in the hospital and went with something else. So in short, I love it! Go for it OP.

I like it, as long as it's pronounced Emma-leen. I also like April from your original thread. I've always really liked that name, whether or not the child was born during that month!

Its okay. My only complaint is that she will become another in the herd of emma/emmy/emmie that are mobbing our preschools at the moment. Give her a chance at something slightly more unique

Trying too hard to what? I ask that every time, and every time somebody says, "Trying too hard to be different", but nobody has yet explained what "trying just hard enough to be different" would be, let alone "not trying hard enough to be different". And I have never yet seen a "not trying hard enough" comment on a name thread on DCUM.

Emmaline was #880 in 2014, between Sharon (#879) and Kimora (#881). There were 308 Emmalines born in 2014 -- were all of those parents also trying too hard to be different?
