GMU is better than VT for what, Criminal Justice Studies by Examination? Sorry, GMU poster; saying it dozens of times doesn't make it so.

I think VA schools win. In MD, sure UMCP is great, but UMBC also has some really strong programs- particularly computer science.

Don't slam me but GMU is also close by and decent (which is important because you never know if you'll have a kid who wants to stay close to home).

Virginia has more choices. That said, local employers are recruiting from UVA, UMCP, UMBC, VT, JMU etc. so in the end it matters more how you do at your chosen state college, than if you ended up at VA or MD in-state.

How about St. Mary's? Isn't that a public honors college? Our DS is very interested and we're in VA.

Well, I work as an engineer in Maryland and have a lot more engineers from VT than from UMD.



I was only referring to the so called "public Ivies" in VA. You are right, UMD and VT are comparable in engineering. Both are better than UVA in STEM. UMD has a stronger computer science program than VT though.
