This is the crux of it. (And sometimes why traditional marriages work more smoothly...) No one wants to be carrying deadweight. Whenever folks argue that "women don't want their DH to be SAHD/want an alpha, etc." I think NO, what women don't want is a crap SAHD!

Yep, my fiancé is a teacher so he manages the household in the summer to give me a break (I'm also a teacher, but work fewer hours). He's awesome at it. Better than me in fact. If I could make enough for him to SAH, I'd do it in a heartbeat. He ironed sh*t I didn't even know got ironed.

This seems to be the cause of 90% of the woman initiated divorces in my social circle. The other 10% are a mix of male infidelity, the husband's mental illness, or emotional & physical spousal abuse of the wife.

Most men aren't going to file, even if they're unhappy, because the wives generally take care of them and help them to maintain their lifestyle. They may cheat, they may complain, but they don't want to rock the boat, either.

Amen, sister! This is my DH! I do everything for him. I sacrificed my career to be the "default parent" for the kids, now he makes a ton of money and my career is crap. Lately, he's been traveling a ton so never around and I feel absolutely no connection. Now he's sick. Boo f'ing hoo. He came home at 6:30 tonight and went to bed. I'm so frustrated with him. I moved for his job and have no friends here. I have things I need to talk about and he has no time for me. Awesome. He'll probably leave me for a young, hot woman and I'll be broke because I took a lower paying job (that I hate and is not at all challenging) to move here. At least it's a community property state.

I totally agree. And we know we can support ourselves without them.

Most men aren't going to file, even if they're unhappy, because the wives generally take care of them and help them to maintain their lifestyle. They may cheat, they may complain, but they don't want to rock the boat, either.

Women file more because the real ass busting work of marriage falls on them, and in some relationships the juice ain't worth the squeeze, especially if the women has an income.

Women file because men are lazy... Plain and simple. Even a man who leaves will not file, he will just abandon. He is fine not filing... Why would he file? What is in it for him. He can tell his girlfriend that he is still married and can't marry her. As soon as the divorce papers are final he has some bitch breathing down his neck to get married.

The women I know work and do the vast majority of kid stuff. Their husbands (or ex husbands) work "long hours" and "travel" for work. It wasn't the women cheating. And the men did not want to end the marriage. They saw no problem continuing like this. They also did not understand why their ex-wives didn't want to sit with them at the children's plays and sporting events.
