My DD was a RMIB student (tested into the program), and is currently studying in the STEM field in college. College is a piece of cake for her after going through RMIB.

All RMIB students also took AP classes and exams beginning from 9th grade. They could only take IB exams in 11th and 12th grade.

Additionally, most RMIB students also take the AP exams for some or all of their IB subjects. Most find the AP exams easier than the IB exams.

At the RM IB meeting last week, they said many kids sit for the AP science exams after the IB class. There may be some extra work involved but the teachers are able to let the kids to know what concepts they need to cover.

IB Math with AP Calculus BC
IB Physics with AP Physics BC
IB Chemistry with AP Chemistry?

I bet there is program difference, and college programs are more aligned with AP and not IB in these subjects.

If your school does it right, the two are not mutually exclusive. DD is an IB diploma candidate. As a junior she took AP Chemistry.

Research the politics of both programs to make sure they align with your values...

Wait, an IB student from RM struggled with physics at a prestigious university? I think RM should be shut down, and the student shamed and forced to return his or her IB diploma.

Just an aside: If your teenager is spending more than 40 hours a week on school plus homework , that's too damn much. Most get up and are in class well before 8:30 am. Get out at 2:30 pm, home by 3:15 (if no extra-curriculars). If they have more than 2 hours of homework after that, something is askew in that school...
