Eh, I just finished watching all of the Star Trek series, and Voyager was far and away my least favorite. Some good characters but it felt derivative, especially after how great DS9 was. TNG is probably the more accessible. That said, I really liked the dynamics of the original ST, but it's probably not the best entry-level sci-fi.
