Eh, I just finished watching all of the Star Trek series, and Voyager was far and away my least favorite. Some good characters but it felt derivative, especially after how great DS9 was. TNG is probably the more accessible. That said, I really liked the dynamics of the original ST, but it's probably not the best entry-level sci-fi.

I agree. Voyager was dumb. Even dumber probably in retrospect.

^^also want to pipe in that as much as I wanted to like BSG, and did actually like it for a while despite that Starbuck was a woman, (sorry, just had to say this because Dirk Benedict was so hot)…I would either do it but not descend into the later half which was beyond horrible, or don't do it at all. I still lament how that show got better and better and then went off the rails to the point where I was begging my DH to stop giving each episode another chance.

It's barely sci fi! It's mostly just sci. Plus it's funny and fun.

Lots of great suggestions here. Dh also adores Sens8, a visually rich engaging series on Netflix. I haven't seen it but might be worth checking out.

My faves: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Orphan Black.

I'd have her see "The Martian" to start and see if she enjoys it. If she doesn't, I don't think the relationship is salvable.

I second xfiles. I know lots of women that are not really into scifi but liked the xfiles.

Torchwood started off well, then started limping along as a season. (I think they lost some good cast members.) BSG started off strong, but then got ridiculous and plot lines went all over like someone spilled their plate of spaghetti. I agree Dr. Who is too dorky. Also, I'd stay away from strictly outer space genres like Star Trek/Babylon. Yes, they have other "themes," but they don't translate well for non-afficiandos.

Movies:
Minority Report
Tron (the original is better for SF fans, the remake is better for non SF fans)
Inception
Gattaca

TV:
Second (or third or seventh or...) Firefly/Serenity
Babylon 5

Eureka (great relationship triangles)
Killjoys (great relationship building - and hot scenes)
Warehouse 13 (great relationship but no hotness between main characters)
Firefly (Nathan Fillion, great relationships)

Basically if you can find the sci-fi that focuses more on the relationships vs. the pew-pew and wow that's a neat gadget - then I think you'll be in good shape.

Definitely Firefly, and both recent Star Trek movies. The latter might be enough to get her into one of the series (TNG is probably a good start, mostly thanks to Picard). I loved the BSG reboot, too--lots of great interpersonal dynamics.
