I have been hearing the same thing since I was in ES in the 1970s. Every generation thinks things have gone downhill,since they were in school.
When did class sizes start getting huge though? That is not only legit complaint, but it's a sizeable one.
My mother started teaching kindergarten in the Midwest in 1949 and she had 35-40 kids in her classes. No specials. She played the piano during music time, took the outside for PE, taught them art.....
So, sometime before that.

It still has the best high school in the country and the largest concentration of really good schools of any jurisdiction in this area.
I'm the PP and I agree, the high schools are excellent. It's the elementary school "education" that has declined so much.

Very happy with our FCPS elementary - 9 on Great Schools. Have liked the fact that there is individual differentiation. Lots of aftercare activities and have had teachers who have tried to understand my DCs quirky personality

I was in your spot last year- kid in Montessori for K and we decided to go to FCPS for 1st grade because we are in a really good pyramid, have a highly rated elementary school, we pay a lot in taxes and we kept hearing 'the best schools in the country.' Sadly, the negative reviews are true. I don't having anything positive to say about our experience so far.

+1. Yea, why 1990s? what has happened between then and now that has not also happened in other parts of the country and in other public schools?
